For beginners, ‘The Beginning Guitarist’s Book’ levels 1 & 2 by Tom Hess and Chris Kalkbrenner will be used. There are 44 lessons in total. These build on melodies, arpeggios, chords and scales.

Moving into intermediate level, the lesson materials will contain building chord progressions from scales, how to play solos over the chord progressions, songwriting, developing improvisation skills, ear training and understanding modes.

Training

There are weekly training sessions in addition to the lesson content. These sessions will train the necessary motions and what to pay attention to when practicing the lessons at home.

Support

Lessons and training sessions will be both conducted in group classes as well as one on one private lessons throughout a week’s time. The expectations are to come to lessons up to 3 times a week. The purpose of teaching in groups is to help students feel more confident and comfortable reaching their guitar based musical goals. Training too much in isolation can possibly overwhelm the student and make them less confident in their progress on guitar. Adding one on one sessions during the week will give the student and teacher a chance to address more directly any problems the student is running into. In all, this gives the student the best possible approach to learning guitar.
